Argentina: Community Work in Buenos Aires and Patagonia

Buenos Aires is a wonderful city to volunteer and learn Spanish, and is becoming an increasingly popular location for foreign students and young people traveling abroad. It is known for its bustling night life, delicious cuisine and vibrant culture. Patagonia is located in the southern most region of South America and is a notoriously beautiful region geographically.

About the project
This project offers a wide array of options for volunteers. in the areas of ESL teaching, informal youth outreach, and working in impovrished communities. In the Patagonia project, we offer a program to volunteer at a school doing a variety of tasks, anything from school support to farm work. The following are projects in which you can choose to take part in Buenos Aires:

Volunteering at an orphanage
Volunteering at a day care center
Volunteering at a community center in a shantytown
Volunteering at a soup kitchen
Volunteering at a center for children with HIV
Volunteering teaching English/homework help with children
Volunteering teaching English to adults
Volunteering at a sustainable garden
Different projects do require more than a basic level of Spanish, however we will be able to arrange intensive spanish courses for an extra fee.

Volunteer work and contribution
Each of the projects in Buenos Aires has different tasks associated. Some of these tasks can include (but are not limited to) the following:

assisting in the kitchen and in all aspects of service in a soup kitchen
help children or adults in small groups with speaking, listening, writing, reading, grammar and vocabulary lessons in English
work with children in orphanages, homes for abused children, daycares, or community centers with homework, and assist to organize educational activities
assist teachers in schools and organize recreational or sport activities
teach computer skills,history, maths, geography, grammar etc. to adults in a continuing education project
union and political work
work with children who are HIV+
Within Buenos Aires you will stay in international student accommodations in shared dorm style rooms.

The house is located in the neighborhood of Recoleta, only a couple blocks from the subway, dozens of bus lines and the best shopping and dining in Buenos Aires.

There are also options for Argentinian homestays and private apartments at an extra fee.

In Patagonia, volunteers will be housed in shared rooms within the school where they volunteer.

Not just work...During your free time you will get the opportuntiy to travel around Buenos Aires and Argentina. Buenos Aires is also a great starting point for backpacking around South America and for meeting other travelers.
